Today European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton arrived in Egypt for meetings with the President Morsy, Field Marshall Tantawi, and a conference for Egyptian women.

“I am very much looking forward to meeting President Morsy. The EU will continue to do all it can to support the peaceful and orderly transition to a civilian and democratic government in Egypt,” Representative Ashton said before her trip.

“The EU is aware there are many challenges ahead. But will continue to stand by Egypt and its people in their quest for both deep democracy and economic opportunity,” she added.

At midday on Thursday Representative Ashton was taking part in a conference she organized called “Egyptian Women: The Way Forward.”

A contact at the Delegation of the European Union to Egypt said, “The conference is attended by many women from a lot of organization, and focuses only on personal education.”
