The Administrative Court of the State Council ruled on the closure of Al-Jazeera Mubasher Egypt as well as other Islamist channels on Tuesday after they were deemed a “threat to social peace”
Prominent Islamist channels that were also shut down were Al-Yarmouk, Al-Quds Al-Arabiya and Ahrar 25. Misr 25 and Al Hafez were two previous channels shut down after “exceptional decisions” taken by the government.
The channels were sued by Mahmoud Omran, president of the Social Justice Party as well as other individuals. The case fell under the jurisdiction of the Administrative Court (Investment Department) of the State Council.
The judge cited that the reasons behind the ruling were due to the channels’ “dissemination of rumors and false, misleading news, which might cause strife in the community between citizens and panic among them.”
