A policeman was killed in the Northern Sinai city of Al-Arish on Thursday early morning.
Policeman Abdel Moneim Ahmed, 40, was killed in front of his family when three militants broke into his residence and opened fire on him, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior (MOI).
Armed Forces spokesman said in a statement that the same militants attacked an army checkpoint, in front of the residence of a North Sinai Governor and injured a soldier.
Both statements read that the police, along with army forces, scanned the area and found the militants’ car later on Thursday morning. When security forces attacked, the militants responded by opening fire, leading to the death of three militants.
Inside the militants’ car, the police and army forces found numerous weapons, including the deceased policeman’s gun, another gun, a sniper rifle, two RPGs, three machine guns, one IED and a mortar.
There was also an ID of an Al-Arish resident named Hussein Atta.
The MOI statement said that security forces in North Sinai is investigating the involvement of the three militants regarding other attacks in Sinai.
