A suicide car bomb attack took place Wednesday morning the area of the Al-Karnak temple in Luxor, killing two militants.
The bomb injured dozens, including a third militant, a police officer and several tourists, state-run Al-Ahram reported.
However, state news agency MENA denied tourists were injured in the attack, quoting the Ministry of Antiquities.
The interior ministry confirmed the incident; the total number of deaths and injuries is yet to be confirmed.
The injured persons were transferred to hospital. This is the first incident of its kind targeting an ancient touristic place since the surge in violent attacks that started following the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
