A US congressional delegation will review security measures in Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports over the course of a visit starting Monday.
The delegation will review all security procedures to secure passengers and luggage, the head of Security at EgyptAir, Tarek Zaki, said in press statements to local newspapers.
Egypt has recently passed an audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
In April, a delegation of Russian experts reviewed the security measures in Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada airports following their security review in Cairo International Airport in January.
Several international delegations have reviewed security procedures in Egyptian airports since the crash of a Russian aeroplane in Sinai last October, killing all 224 people on board, the majority of whom were Russian nationals.
In November, Russia issued an immediate suspension of all commercial flights to and from Egypt, pending a report on the status of security procedures at Egyptian airports.
Last month, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said Egypt and Russia agreed to take further measures to restore flights between both countries as soon as possible, on the condition that security measures are observed.
“We touched upon the question of resuming direct flights between our countries in order to help bolster tourism, which has declined for obvious reasons,” said Lavrov.
Earlier this month, Egyptian prosecutor-general Nabil Sadek said he referred the case of the Russian plane to the State Security Prosecution, due to suspicion of criminal activity, according to a Russian report.
