Dahlia El Deeb, director of corporate social responsibility at Microsoft Egypt, said the company made a contribution of $2.8m in 2016 in the form of software, while the total global contribution of the company in social responsibility amounted to $465m.

She told Daily News Egypt that the company offers many programmes for the development of society in Egypt, including the Egypt Initiative, which is aimed at training 120,000 youth.

On the project implemented by Microsoft with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, El Deeb said that the aim of the project is to establish an integrated database of all civil associations in Egypt to create a map showing the number of associations and safety of their presence and the services provided by them.

According Abir El-Helw, consultant of the database project at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, during the establishment of the database, about 47,000 civil associations were counted, but only 28,000 of them are still operative. She added that the ministry will work on automating the information of care homes in the coming period, as they host 12,000 children.

She explained that, through the establishment of the database of NGOs, an electronic portal has been set up to show information on all the associations and establish an electronic donation portal. Through this portal, the associations will disclose their final accounts results and activities, indicating to donors how their donations are to be disbursed. The final version of this website will be launched within the next month.

Moreover, El-Helw said that she is working on the creation of a geographic information system (GIS) to provide data and information about each association via maps, in cooperation with Microsoft.

This came on the sidelines of the conference organised by Microsoft Egypt in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) titled “Empowerment and Technological Integration of NGOs”.

The conference aims to empower the organisations through the use of modern technological tools in order to help the NGOs to perform their work in an optimal manner and enable them to carry out their mission in the service of the Egyptian society.
