Government invests EGP 58bn in housing, utilities projects: minister

The government‘s investments in Upper Egypt projects reached EGP 58bn, distributed between housing, drinking water, sanitation and utilities projects, according to Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly.

Madbouly added that there is a strong focus on the implementation of treatment projects, and that the vast majority of the three sewage treatment plants will be implemented and established in Upper Egypt.

The minister pointed out that there are 119 sewage treatment plants in Upper Egypt with a capacity of 1.8m cubic metres per day.

He noted that the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, is trating 1m cubic metres of sewage per day at El Mahsama Drain in Ismailia governorate to contribute to the cultivation of 50,000 feddans.

“We are accelerating the completion of sanitation projects in the villages of the republic, and we are approaching the completion of 50% of the projects by 2020. We are working on the establishment of 35 treatment plants during a year and a half in Upper Egypt. Furthermore, we have technical schools for drinking water and sewage, the students from which we use as workers for companies,” Madbouly said.
