The Ministry of Antiquities announced beginning the work to construct a new museum in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, with a EGP 30m allocated budget, after work on it was halted in 2008.
Elham Salah, head of the museums sector at the ministry, said in a press release that a new contract was signed between the ministry and the construction company, adding that the cost of establishing the museum will be funded by the Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate.
Salah also stated that the governorate has been insisting on establishing the museum in order to have a platform to spotlight the history and heritage of Kafr El-Sheikh, as well as highlighting the unknown archaeological sites there.
The museum will include several exhibition halls, which will house artefacts found in Kafr El-Sheikh that belong to different historical eras, as well as a library, lecture hall, and rooms dedicated to raising children’s awareness of history in creative ways.
This comes on the same day that Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Anany met with Belgian Ambassador to Egypt Sibille de Cartier d’Yves to discuss the details of establishing a temporary museum in Belgium to showcase artefacts from the Ptolemaic dynasty.
The idea of the museum was brought forward by the Belgium government and the Egyptian ministry is currently studying the offer.
D’Yves stated in the meeting that this will be the first Egyptian heritage museum in Belgium and it is considered an essential way to enrich the cultural bonds between both countries.
