CAIRO: Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif will keep his post in a new cabinet and form a new government following recent parliamentary elections, Investment Minister Mahmoud Mohieldin said on Tuesday.
Mohieldin, speaking to journalists after meeting Nazif,is the first senior government official to comment on the new government since the state-owned Al- Ahram newspaper last week said the prime minister would be asked to form a new cabinet.
“Prime Minister Nazif will form the government, Mohieldin said.
The Foreign Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid said he had been given the portfolio for industry and internal trade. Rachid s position did not exist in the outgoing government but new posts have been created in previous reshuffles.
A reshuffle is routine procedure after parliamentary elections.
The prime minister s main focus has traditionally been managing the economy and senior officials do not expect major changes at the finance, investment and trade and industry ministries, which make up the core group of economic reformists. Reuters
