TOKYO: Osaka s international airport temporarily closed its runway Monday out of fear of a possible oil leak from an Egyptian airliner that just landed, airport officials said.
The EgyptAir flight 962, an A340-220 that flew from Cairo with about 100 passengers and crew members, landed safely after informing the airport of a possible oil leakage, airport spokesman Shinichi Matsuda said.
The landing was normal and there were no injuries or damage, he said.
The airport closed its runway to inspect its surface and the aircraft, but reopened it about 20 minutes later as inspectors found no trace of oil spilled on the runway, Matsuda said.
The inspectors, however, found a small amount of oil leaked from a hydraulic system in the left-side gear, but remained inside the aircraft, he added.
Officials were still inspecting the aircraft, he said. Kansai International Airport is near Osaka, about 410 km southwest of Tokyo. AP
