Elegantly navigate your way through this summer s weddings
CAIRO: June is statistically proven to be the peek of the wedding season. It seems everyone wants to get hitched at the start of summer. Weddings are always fun, but there is one thing everyone always dreads, the issue of what to wear.
The invitation tells you all. Before even reading it, take its aesthetics as your first indicator. If the invitation is one of those classic old-fashioned ones written in Arabic calligraphy, then you should probably wear classic attire. If the invitation is colorful and playful with caricatured picture, it s a sign to go for more casual fashionable outfit.
Your next clue is the venue; fancier ones like ballrooms and hotels tend to be leaning towards black tie attire. Outdoor weddings are always less formal. Daytime weddings are a whole other issue altogether. Let’s explore each of the three genres. Black-tie weddings
. For women, the elegant tailored look is what you should be going for. Think classy, décolleté and long – mid length dresses are less common but acceptable.. Bring out your jewelry boxes because this is the type of event to show off your grandmother s diamonds. Also beaded purses and shawls are always a plus.. For men, you can either wear a tuxedo or a dark colored suit.
Outdoor weddings
. As it is less formal than black tie, women should wear more of a cocktail dress. Something mid length with a trendy cut in a nice color. Black is also up to standard but can get extremely boring, so if you want to stand out, go for a solid colored gown.. Avoid being too sparkly. Lots of sequins look too much in an outdoor wedding as they are usually more laid back. . Keep your grandmother s jewelry in their box. Instead, wear big earrings or a dramatic necklace just giving a touch of class.. Keep away from high stilettos if it is a garden wedding, as the heels will uncomfortably dig into the ground.. For men, wear a dark suit if you’re not sure how casual the wedding is, but if you are confidant that it is casual, you can wear a blazer and slacks with a tie.
Day weddings
. For the women, colors and floral patterns are what day weddings are all about. Green, blue, yellow and pink all look great by day. Black and navy on the other hand don’t. . Long dresses are not very appropriate, but too short may look trashy; so go for medium length.. A nice chiffon skirt with a simple top can also look great.. Lots of make up looks horrendous.. Keep jewelry simple. Colorful semi precious stones could look pretty on a simple dress or ensemble.. For the men light colored suits best fit the daytime event. Like the women, avoid black and navy. Beige suits are ideal.. Don’t wear a tuxedo as it is inappropriate before 6 pm.. For both men and women, don’t forget your sunglasses.
Unacceptable attire
. Women should never wear white as not to upstage the bride. An old wives tale maybe, but it’s true.. Never wear jeans. If you’re not the dressy type at least wear chic pants; wearing jeans can be seen as offensive and disrespectable.. Sexy is good, but there is a limit. Anything lower cut than a bra, an awfully-low back, or extremely micro can look disgraceful.
