Rovers boss Hughes eyes Mido

LONDON: Blackburn manager Mark Hughes revealed on Tuesday that he is trying to sign Egypt striker Mido from Italian club Roma.

Mido, 23, is available after Tottenham decided not to sign him following a loan spell at White Hart Lane last season.

Hughes is keen to bring Mido back to the English Premiership, even though the former Ajax star has a reputation for being hard to handle and was involved in a spectacular touchline row with Egypt boss Hassan Shehata at this year s African Nations Cup.

Hughes said: The matter is a little bit complicated as he is still under contract, but we have expressed an interest in Mido.

He is one of a number of players we would like to bring here. The situation, though, has not developed as quickly as we had hoped.

However I am still hopeful and we will keep pursuing him until the matter is dead in the water, he said.

Hughes is also keen to tie Australian internationals Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton to new deals.

Both players, who are out of contract next season, starred during their country s World Cup campaign and defender Neill has since been linked with a move to Spanish champions Barcelona.

But Hughes has offered the duo improved terms and he added: There are offers on the table for the Aussie guys and we are hopeful they will accept these deals.

Both players were excellent in the World Cup. They really made their mark at international level. It was a real experience for them.

Not only will they benefit from it but we will benefit from it as well. AFP
