Jurists organizing ‘popular’ court to publicize accusations
A group of attorneys and jurists have decided to form a joint committee to publicize a list of accusations against what they have described as the Israeli war crimes of committing massacres against the peoples of Lebanon and Palestine.
The discussion group was organized by the Egyptian Organization of Human Rights (EOHR), Al-Masry Al-Youm, which is an Egyptian independent daily newspaper, reported on Wednesday. The discussion was organized for finding methods to bring war crimes to trial. The jurists stated that the operations that Hezbollah undertake are not terrorism, but rather legitimate resistance, denouncing Israel’s high jacking of the right to represent the international community in executing the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1559.
The jurists said that they had detailed documents on crimes that violate all international treaties. They demand that these war criminals appear in front of international courts.
Meanwhile, university professors have decided to start bringing cases against Israeli and American officials in international courts.
Abdullah Meshael, former assistant of the minister of foreign affairs and professor of international law, said that Hezbollah operations are not militant aggression according to article 51 of the United Nations charter.
Meshael added that the definition of legitimate resistance is the countering of militant aggression but does not include invading a territory, which is what Israel is doing.
While Nabil Helmi, international law professor, asserts that what Hezbollah has done should not be considered kidnapping, but rather the imprisonment of occupying militant soldiers.
An emergency conference of Egyptian university staff has stated that it will bring a lawsuit in front of Arab and international courts against Israeli and American parties. The professors also stated that they would create a court on Israeli war crimes. A special committee with Gaafar Abdel Salam, the general secretariat of the Coalition of Islamic Universities, as the president, was assigned to start the proceedings of the trial. The court will include representatives of the Lebanese University, the Coalition of Islamic Universities, the permanent office of the clubs of Egyptian university staff members and the Arab League.
