By Mohamed Sabe

Islam Al-Shater has ruled himself out of Ahli s Egyptian league game against Asyut Petroleum on Monday.

Al-Shater picked up an injury in Ahli s goalless draw against Asante Kotoko in Ghana last week but reports claimed he would be fit for Monday s game.

I trained with team only once, Al-Shater told FilGoal.com on Sunday.

I believe coach Manuel Jose preferred not to include me in the squad so I can get some rest, he added.

Jose announced an 18-man squad for the game against Asyut, but Al-Shater said that the Portuguese manager usually doesn t give reasons for excluding a player from the squad.

Meanwhile, winger Mohamed Abdullah has been included in Ahli’s match squad for the first time since last season.

Zamalek ease past Petrojet to snatch top spot

By Ahmad Saied

Zamalek registered an easy 2-0 victory over Petrojet in the Egyptian League on Sunday to snatch the top spot for the first time this season.

Forward Amr Zaki fired past keeper Ahmed Fawzi midway through the first-half to score his second successive goal for Zamalek.

Fellow striker Abdul-Halim Ali ended his goal-drought and sealed the win just three minutes from the break

The win placed Zamalek first with six points from three games, leading Petrojet and Ismaili on goal difference.

International defender Medhat Abdul-Hadi featured for the first time against a Zamalek side that he captained for several years after signing for Petrojet in the close season.

Petrojet, who kicked-off the game splitting the first spot with Ismaili, began the game in style and laid siege to Zamalek s areas for the first ten minutes.

But Zamalek restored form quickly as Tamer Abdul-Hamid and Alaa Abdul-Ghani controlled the rhythm in the midfield while Walid Abdul-Latif, who replaced Hazem Emam as a playmaker, played a deep role behind the striking duo.

The home side grabbed the lead in the 28th minute after several passes in the midfield ended at Abdul-Hamid just before Petrojet s area.

Abdul-Hamid slipped a defense-splitting pass to the darting Zaki who outpaced marker Abdul-Hadi and sent a first-time bullet into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Mahmoud Abdul-Hakim headed past Zamalek keeper Mohamed Abdul-Monsef but he was flagged for offside.

In the 42nd minute, Abdul-Latif went face-to-face with Fawzi but instead of shooting, he crossed to the unchallenged Ali who enjoyed an easy tap-in.

Petrojet coach Mokhtar Mokhtar fielded veteran strikers Alaa Ibrahim and Khaled Bibo after the break in a bid to narrow the gap but Zamalek managed to hold on to their victory.

Omar reconsiders Olympic Alexandria job

By Ahmad Saied

Alexandria-Hani Al-Awadi: Former Ittihad coach Mohamed Omar said on Monday that he has not decided yet whether to accept Olympic Alexandria s managerial post or not.

Omar was tipped to take over as the newly promoted club s coach, succeeding Mostafa Younes who was axed after losing the first two games in the Egyptian league.

But after watching Olympic slumping to a 4-2 defeat against Al-Gaish on Sunday, Omar became hesitant over the job.

I am shocked, the former National Military team manager told FilGoal.com. Olympic are much weaker than I expected.

Omar has just arrived in Egypt after parting ways with Sudanese giants Merrikh earlier in August.

Olympic are at the basement of the Egyptian league table with no points.
