Team moves into sixth spot on league table
CAIRO: Two goals from Flavio Amado and Mohamed Abu Treika gave Al-Ahly an easy 2-0 home win over Ghazl Mahalla in the Egyptian League on Thursday.
Angolan international Flavio broke the deadlock early in the first half before Abu Treika sealed the victory in the 33rd minute.
The victory placed Al-Ahly in the sixth spot of the league table with 14 points and three games in hand while Mahalla ranks third with 15 points.
Mahalla s resistance didn t last long as Flavio, in top form, began scoring as early as the sixth minute.
The former Petro Atletico forward rose to head home Tarek Al-Saied s corner kick past advancing keeper Ibrahim Farag, who was to blame for Al-Ahly s opener.
After conceding the goal, Mahalla went on the attack but failed to pose a threat to Al-Ahly except on very few occasions.
Mohsen Hendawi sent a low drive from a free kick in the 15th minute but was palmed away by Al-Ahly international keeper Essam Al-Hadari.
Emad Meteb almost doubled the lead five minutes later when he connected with Mohamed Barakat s pinpoint cross to head the ball just wide of the goal.
Abu Treika secured the second goal in the 33rd minute when he curled a free kick from the right flank into the far top corner of the net.
He then had a great opportunity four minutes past the hour mark when he unleashed a brilliant first-timer from the edge of the area but Farag tipped it away.
