Twenty-one people were killed, including two Jordanians, and 22 wounded Tuesday in two separate road accidents south of Cairo, police said.
Eighteen Egyptians were killed when a speeding bus lost control and collided with a truck some 20 km south of the capital, police said.
Two Jordanians and one Egyptian were killed and six others wounded, in the second crash, which took place on the southern outskirts of Cairo.
Yearly about 6,000 people die and 35,000 are injured in road accidents in Egypt. The transport ministry says road accidents are the second-highest cause of death in the country and experts estimate they cause annual losses of up to $350 million (approximately LE 2 billion).
Traffic regulations are often inefficiently enforced while vehicles are also poorly maintained. Many of the country s coastal and desert roads allow for high speeds, and accidents frequently occur as a result of reckless passing.
