CAIRO: Helmi Toulan won t be Zamalek s new manager as both sides failed to strike a deal on Saturday, the Cairo side said.
Portuguese manager Manuel Cajuda was sacked after Zamalek lost 2-0 to Masri in the Egyptian League on Friday. Their third defeat of the season almost put them out of the title race.
The Zamalek administration had objections over Toulan s list of his potential assistants, board member Omar Haridi said.
Haridi said that Toulan demanded appointing former star Tarek Yehia, who is head coach of second division side Al-Etisalat, as his first assistant but the club turned his request down.
Toulan was initially tipped to succeed Dutchman Mark Wotte at Ismaili but an agreement wasn t reached.
While Zamalek is searching for a new manager, Cajuda s assistant Ahmed Ramzi will be appointed as a caretaker manager, Haridi said.
Ramzi will be in full charge of Zamalek s Arab Champions League (ACL) clash with the Kuwaiti side Kuwait said on Wednesday.
Zamalek are in third place of the league table with 26 points, three adrift of Al-Ahly who still have two matches in hand.
They were held to a 2-2 draw by Algerian underdogs Ahli Bordj in their ACL group stage opener at the Cairo International Stadium last week.
