CAIRO: Ahly is objecting to the Egyptian Football Federations’ decision to limit teams to 25 players starting next season.

The decision is wrong and can’t be applied immediately, club officials said.

A club source told FilGoal.com on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to media that Ahly will request a transition period before the decision takes effect.

He said that several players are contracted to Ahly and releasing them now would result in huge losses to the club.

Other players who are due to be promoted to the first team from youth ranks won t also find places in the squad and would be released for free as well, the source added.

Ahy are set to suggest that clubs could register 30 players with five spots granted to players from youth ranks.

Fifa chairman Joseph Blatter said earlier this month that clubs should downsize their squads because richer sides now sign all good players, making competition harder for small clubs.
