CAIRO: A Russian has died while diving at a depth of 100 m in the Red Sea, Egyptian police said Tuesday. He was the fourth Russian diver to drown this month off the Egyptian coast.
Alexander Nikitan, 41, was found dead on Monday near the shore at Ras Mohammed, a resort on the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula, said a police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to speak to the press.
The officer said Nikitan had ignored the standard warning to divers not to exceed 60 meters (yards) and had descended to 100 meters (yards), where he ran out of oxygen.
Nikitan was visiting Egypt with his family, he added.
On Jan. 5, Russian Alexei Borisov died while diving off the Red Sea resort of Dahab. The following day, two Russian divers, Dmitry Kapitonov and Yelena Sundukova, disappeared while exploring a coral reef near the Sinai resort of Marsa Alam.
