EL-ARISH: The authorities in El-Arish have decided to free an Israeli truck driver found in possession of pistol bullets as he crossed the Israeli-Egyptian border, a judicial source in the town said.

Vitaly Sergey was arrested at the Al-Awja frontier post on Thursday as he tried to cross with a cargo of clothing for delivery to an Egyptian company.

When his vehicle passed through an explosives detector an alarm sounded, and in a search of the merchandise security officials discovered the bullets hidden among the clothing, the source said.

The Israeli said he had found the bullets in the desert during his trip, the official added, without saying how many were found in his possession.

Sergey will be freed as long as he is not found to be wanted in Egypt on any other charges, the source said. He was being held at Al-Qassima police station in the centre of the Sinai and would be released in the coming hours, he added.
