CAIRO: Minister of Communication and Information Technology Tarek Kamel said that growth rates in mobile phone services will surge to records of nearly 100 percent over the next three years.
During the final session of the Cairo ICT Conference on Wednesday, the minister said the number of mobile phone subscribers would double to 34 million by the end of 2010 compared with 18.5 million at present. He pointed out that growth rates in the Egyptian communication industry ranged between 20 percent and 25 percent.
He asserted that growth in mobile phone services increased to record levels of 70 percent in 2006 compared with a year earlier.
Kamel said the growth rate in the number of subscribers in broadband Internet services amounted to 100 percent with about 250,000 subscribers.
