CAIRO: A police officer coincidentally caught out man disguised as a policeman as he posed as a major in one of the capital’s streets, Al Gomhuria daily reported.
Captain Islam Mukbel, of the Nasr City police station, was on patrol along with two detectives and some soldiers. Their patrol car collided with a man who claimed to be a major. The fake police officer Adel Aballa Amer, 43, was holding a walkie talkie as he drove his private car. He had apparently convinced the lady sitting with him in the car that he was a police officer. As Mukbel asked him about where he graduated from, his colleagues and workplace, the imposter gave contradictory statements which aroused the officer’s suspicions. At the police station, interrogations revealed that Amer was wanted in connection with a series of petty crimes. Laila Sabri, 35, the woman who was with him, said she was stopped by the culprit who told her he was a police officer and asked her to accompany him to the police station for interrogation in connection with a case. Amer finally confessed and said he had been given the wireless by one security officer at Al Hussein Hospital.
