CAIRO: A Nigerian couple was arrested after trying to cross illegally into Israel from Egypt in search of work, security sources said on Saturday. The two Nigerians, who had recruited local Bedouins to help secure their passage into Israel, were detained late on Friday by border guards, the source said. During a police chase, the two were injured in the face and neck after falling on barbed wire along the frontier. They were taken to El-Arish hospital in northern Sinai for treatment. The smuggling of people, drugs and contraband is common across Egypt’s long desert border with Israel, and Bedouins frequently try to cross into the Jewish state in search of work.
