Nobody likes to be a spoiler on Mothers Day (in Egypt, Mar. 21), but if you have run out of thoughts on how to celebrate try these ideas which should fit any size budget.
Picture perfect: If you’re running low on cash, look through some old photographs and find a picture of you with your mother. Something of you as a toddler can be touching, or even you all grown up can be just as affective.
Take your selected picture to the nearest photo shop, have it blown up to a larger scale and get it framed. Some pictures can look more nostalgic in black and white. It only takes a couple of hours to print and will cost well under LE 100.
Pamper her: A day at the spa is a great escape from everyday stress, and rejuvenates anyone. Spoil your mother and get her a voucher from any of the spas around town. A nice massage or facial brings out the shine in any woman.
Many hotels various spa and health retreat packages, although it may end up being costly reaching upwards of LE 500. But come on, isn’t the woman who toiled for you worth such royal treatment?
Wine and dine: Everybody loves a good meal, especially in pleasant surroundings with good company. So book a table at her favorite restaurant, just you and your sibling. Leave your father at home; make her feel like it’s her special day.
Of course make a point of picking her up and taking her home, don’t underestimate small gestures.
Something creative: A couple of young girls have arranged a one stop shop for appropriate and unique gifts for Mothers Day under the name Clip’t Wings. This three-day open house is a mass collaboration of artists exhibiting their works, and all selling at reasonable prices.
These include Bisaett Bags by Amira Sofwat, Towels, bed linen and table cloths by Aya, Semiprecious jewellery by Karma Sabet, Coster s, Trays and other little trinkets by Nelly Serag and candles by Rawya Rachid and Yara Tatanakiand more.
This exhibition is open Sunday-Tuesday at 9 Gabalya St., 9th floor, apt 317, Zamalek, Cairo. From 11am – 9pm. Contact info: (010) 164 1209.
Flower power: As cliché as it they may sound, flowers do make women happy even if she says “you shouldn’t have she probably doesn’t really mean it. For those always on the run, flowers are fast and can be delivered straight to the house. Get creative though, if it’s all you’re going to get. A nice bouquet of tulips or irises is good.
It’s very important not to forget to write a card to go with the flowers. If you’re a one-sentence kind of writer, try something a little more imaginative than “Happy Mothers Day .
