CAIRO: Boys and girls playing in a playground, with balls and toys, with their faces painted might seem like a normal day for most of our children on their vacation, but for some 1000 orphans on Saturday April 7 in Al Jazzera Youth Center, this wasn’t the case.
For the 1000 orphans gathered from 10 different orphanages from all over Egypt to celebrate orphans day, the day was like a birthday for each and every one of them. They were, for the very few hours they spent at the event at least, the center of attention.
The event was set up by the National Council for Youth and is meant to “draw smiles on the children’s faces according to Sara Mahmoud El Berry, media relations coordinator of Promax Community.
The event started with a big reception at 10 am, followed by a puppet show from 11 am-2 pm after which the children took off for lunch.
The children then went on a field trip to the circus from 5-5:30 pm prior to leaving to go back to their orphanages.
A male orphan kept walking around me as I was taking pictures of the event. And when I tried to speak to him about the day, I found him more interested in making me take pictures for him and his new friends he made at the event.
For that one day, all the orphans seemed to have nothing on their minds other than to concentrate on having fun..
