CAIRO: Egypt s latest religious trend was released this week, as a girl was announced married to the Quran and the incident was reported in “El-Beyt Betak talk show Wednesday April18.

The talk show did not provide any information about the girl.

The show is hosted by Dr Mohamed El Shima, professor at Al Azhar University, whom the girl tried to meet after one of his lectures.

According to El Shima, the marriage was conducted by as young religious male with the attendance of two witnesses .

This is pure nonsense, El Shima commented.

Sheikh Mohmoud Ashour, former deputy for Al Azhar and member of the Islamic Research Center, expressed his discontent from such inaccurate and stupid issue that according to him has nothing to do with Islam.

Ashour told The Daily Star Egypt, that he knows nothing about the issue.

I will not speak about anything I do not know about, and no one should do that, Ashour said.

Some girl went crazy and did a stupid action, we should not go after her trying to rationalize her action, Ashour added.

Ashour has never heard anything called a Quran marriage .

[Sheikhs] have discussed all types of marriages that we heard of and knew about, regardless of their legibility, but this is nonsense. What does it mean to marry the holy Quran? Ashour asked.
