Nazif presides over meeting on developing Hurghada airport

CAIRO: Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif stressed the importance of taking swift measures to deal with the increasing number of passengers of various nationalities arriving at Hurghada International Airport, according to reports by the State Information Service (SIS) yesterday.

Nazif s statements came during a meeting Monday attended by Minister of Defense Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Minister of Civil Aviation Ahmed Shafiq and Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garana.

Cabinet spokesman Magdi Radi told reporters that the meeting took up a plan to develop Hurghada airport in light of the increasing number of passengers and tourists visiting the Red Sea area which amount to 4.1 million passengers per year, SIS added.

Minister Garana pointed out that Hurghada has a hotel capacity of 43,000 rooms, adding that 30,000 more rooms will be built during the next two years.
