CAIRO: Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit Tuesday received Mark Otte, the EU envoy to the Middle East peace process, who was visiting Egypt as part of a regional tour.
Following the meeting, Otte was reported to have said that he had talks with Aboul Gheit on a wide range of issues, hailing intensive Egyptian diplomatic efforts for tackling current issues in the region, according to reports from the State Information Service.
During the meeting with Otte, the Egyptian FM took the opportunity to express astonishment over the latest Israeli aggression in the occupied territories at the time when Arabs were seeking peace.
Aboul Gheit said Arabs were seeking to propose the Arab peace initiative while Israel was starting military moves in the occupied territories, SIS reported.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alaa Al-Hadidy told reporters that Aboul Gheit also discussed the latest regional developments with Otte, focusing on the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, conflict in the Sudan, and Iran’s nuclear aspirations.
