If you find yourself in love, badly hurt, or dying to get your lover back, get yourself a copy of Tamer Hosny s new album Ya Bent Al Aeh, (Oh girl, way to go).
The new album, available on CD and cassette tape, is a mixture of emotional songs that a lot of us can relate to, in addition to a special romantic birthday song as a bonus track.
The album contains 10 tracks, three of which are written and composed by Hosny: the lead song Ya Bent Al Aeh and two other songs, Ergaaly (Come back to me), and Mahadesh Hasis Beyah (Nobody feels for me).
Mahadesh Hasis Beyah seems to express Hosny s feelings when he was in jail serving a year sentence that was handed down to him for dodging his military service. The song expresses his feelings of being neglected at a difficult time in his life.
Another song called Aatazery (Apologize), was also written by Hosny but composed by Haytham Shakir, a young singer and composer who was also jailed with Hosny for the same crime.
Most of the album s songs abound with Arabic slang, and include phrases that are common parlance among the young generation.
Also, unlike most albums that have come out recently, the different songs do not have a single musician. Amir Mahrous, Mohamed Mostafa, Tamim, Toma, Ahmed Ibrahim, and Tarek Hassib acted as music arrangers for Hosny’s 10 songs.
I enjoyed the song Seeb El Hob (Let love go) most – written by Amir Taema, composed by Khaled Azz and arranged by Toma – as it incorporated Arabic that no one dared to use in song lyrics before. This is refreshing given that it’s a romantic song, usually reserved for high class forms of art such as poetry, using strong language and vocabulary – or so we were told in poetry classes at school.
Hosny, who is often called the singer of this generation, has indeed proven that his top spot can not be usurped, despite the huge number of singers and albums that have flooded the market over the past year.
