Maroquinerie and passementerie design and execution require talent and patience, especially in Egypt these days, to create a work of art that will not fall apart, is a feat in itself.
If you are in search of “chic magnifique, the French designer, Cecile Lacorre has managed, after many months of trial and error with the craftsmen and material availability, to instill quality local color into her elegant creations: Khamsa Home and Fashion Accessories. Originally a university book editor for fifteen years in France, Cecile had to move to Morocco about four years ago due to her husband s work. As her 2 sons were toddlers, she decided to work from home and that instigated her passion for soft furnishings and accessories, finding inspiration in her new surroundings.
Fine quality passementerie trimmings were ubiquitous and as craftwork made a strong return on the international fashion scene, so Cecile timely rode the wave. A couple of years back, the designer made her home in Cairo and she felt a special energy here, among the people and so her work evolved on a higher level, and using other textures, Cecile has developed seasonal collections which she currently sells at Mounaya Gallery in Zamalek and at open house sales in Maadi. I have discovered Egypt and its people through my work, and that is my reward.
Khamsawill be holding an open house sale on May 21 and 22. For more information call: (02) 359 7430.
