Angolan winger Sebastiao Gilberto has penned a four-year contract extension with Ahly, the Egyptian champions announced on their official website on Wednesday.
The news will come as a boost to the 24-year-old midfielder, who was linked with a move out of Ahly after enduring an injury-plagued season.
Gilberto suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during Angola s match against Morocco in a warm-up to the 2006 African Cup of Nations which took place in Egypt.
He featured just twice since sustaining the injury. Gilberto participated in the Egyptian League matches against Ittihad and Tersana in September but aggravated the problem in the latter game.
The former Petro Atletico man underwent another rehabilitation program until he was declared fit and took part in Ahly s friendly game against Kuwait s Qadsia in May.
He is set to be registered in Ahly s CAF Champions League squad list in order to be ready for the group phase, which the Cairo giants have already begun.
