There is a big chance Zamalek will not participate in the Egyptian Super Cup game against Al Ahly, because the timing of the fixture clashes with their pre-season program, General Manager Alaa Meklid said.

Zamalek, the runner-up in last season’s league and cup championship, is slated to play against Al Ahly, which dominated both competitions.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that the game is to be played on Aug. 9, four days after Zamalek s return from their pre-season training camp in France.

The club has not announced its decision yet, because we did not receive an official notification from the EFA, but I think this date will be inappropriate for us, Meklid told FilGoal.com on Saturday.

Meklid’s words were confirmed by Zamalek football director Ayman Mansour. In a TV interview Mansour said that even if the EFA sent an official notice, the club will reject the call because the team will not be ready.

Zamalek squad will fly to France on July 15 for their pre-season program, and they should return on Aug. 5 after playing two friendlies.

If it plays the game, Zamalek could have a chance to add a trophy to their records, as the Cairo giants have won nothing during the past three years.
