CAIRO: Al Ahly has suspended its star striker Emad Meteb for 10 days and fined him LE 40,000 after he protested furiously to being substituted in Al Ahly s 3-0 CAF Champions League win over Esperance on Friday.
Meteb was taken off 15 minutes into the second half, and he appeared to be unhappy with the technical staff s decision.
Meteb did not take part in Al Ahly s training session on Monday, and assistant manager Hossam Al-Badri revealed that he will be banned from training for 10 days.
The 24-year-old forward has been a key figure in Al Ahly s local and continental success throughout the last three seasons, but he was frequently substituted in Al Ahly s recent games.
Al Ahly s decision means that Meteb will be deprived of playing the friendly game against Portuguese giants Benfica on Sunday in the African champion s centenary celebrations.
