CAIRO: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided to suspend Olympic team star Mahmoud Abdul-Razeq Shikabala for one year.
Shikabala will not take part in any international games played by the national team for a whole year.
EFA cited the recent “disappointment at the All-African Games in Algeria.
A spokesman from the EFA informed FilGoal.com that the Zamalek playmaker was given a one-year suspension along with his Zamalek teammate Ahmed Ghanem. Enppi defender Abdul-Aziz Tawfik will be suspended for six months.
The decision came after reports from team supervisor Mahmoud Bakr and manager Magdi Tolba who suggested that the trio behaved inappropriately during the team s stay in Algeria. The report said the players didn’t abide by their coach’s instructions and weren’t taking their training seriously.
The verdict is unlikely to have an impact on uncapped duo Ghanem and Tawfik, but it will certainly affect Shikabala, who was gradually becoming an indispensable star of the national team.
The current Olympic team failed to reach the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and were thrashed out of the All-African games.
