CAIRO: After carefully observing the balcony of the apartment, 17-year-old Ragab Abdel Latif knocked at the door to ask for a glass of water.
He was sure that no one but a feeble 75-year-old woman was inside, and his plan was to murder her, according to the state-run newspaper Al Gomhuria Daily newspaper.
Abdel Latif, who works as a tailor in Boulaq El Dakrour district, had been suffering a financial crisis for a long time, the motive behind the crime.
When Samiha Hassan allowed him into the house to serve him water, Abdel Latif grabbed a huge stone that he had found at the gate of the house and beat her on the head, until she fell, bloody and unconscious.
But Abdel Latif’s hopes were dashed when he found nothing to rob in the house except 43 new female handbags in a locked room beside her flat. As he broke into it, he realized it was her grandson’s storage room, since he works in the bag business. So Abdel Latif grabbed all the bags and ran away to sell them in a nearby store.
The Giza police force arrested Abdel Latif and transferred the general prosecutor’s office. He was then jailed for four days pending an investigation.
