ALEXANDRIA: Amal Hamdy, a mother from Alexandria, tried to kill her 7-day-old daughter after the alleged father denied parenthood, reported local newspapers.
Hamdy, 21, attempted to get rid of her daughter by placing her on the roof in the scorching sun so the baby would suffer from sunstroke.
Neighbors rushed to bring the baby to safety and then called the National Counsel for Motherhood and Childhood hotline (16000). Specialists arrived quickly and took the mother and her newborn to El Baraam center in Semouha, Alexandria.
At the center, the mother refused to breastfeed her daughter and even tried to strangle her to death.
When questioned, Hamdy said the father is her ex-husband. However, he denied these allegations, saying that they divorced two years ago.
After Hamdy’s attempts to kill her daughter, officials at the center reported her to authorities. Karam Mahmoud, the public prosecutor at Sidi Gaber police station, ordered her arrest and put the baby in a children’s care center.
