CAIRO: Mohamed Abou-Treika has been declared fit to participate in Al Ahly’s crucial CAF Champions League clash against Ivorian side Asec Mimosas on Sunday after recovering from an ankle injury.
The classy playmaker has been initially ruled out for one month after spraining his ankle in Al Ahly’s 3-0 defeat to Sudanese giants Hilal on Aug. 19.
However, he has fully recovered earlier than expected and took part in Al Ahly’s training session on Wednesday.
The news will come as a boost to Al Ahly coach Manuel Jose, who has been annoyed by the absence of Abou-Treika.
Defending champions Al Ahly, who are looking for an unprecedented third successive title, need just a draw against Asec to secure their place in the competition’s semis.
They will be dumped out of the tournament if they suffer a home defeat against Asec, whose victory will lift them to the semis along with Hilal.
