CAIRO: Petrojet leapfrogged defending champions Al Ahly to the Egyptian League summit after Alaa Ibrahim s brace gave them a 3-2 home victory over Al-Baladeya on Tuesday.
The former Ahly striker opened the scoring in the 25th minute before doubling the lead two minutes past the hour mark. He now tops the league s scorers chart with impressive six goals in five matches.
Substitute Mohamed Farouk added the third in the 70th minute to kill off the visitors hopes.
However, Al-Baladeya s late efforts saw them narrow the gap through a brace from Ahmed Sonbol in the 84th and 90th minutes.
Petrojet became in charge of the league table with 12 points, one ahead of second-placed Al Ahly. Al-Gaish could regain their league leadership if they beat Arab Contractors on Saturday.
The newly-promoted Al-Baladeya lie 13th on just three points.
Enppi secured a precious 3-2 victory over Tersana in a similar fashion.
Mohamed Ibrahim grabbed the opener for the petroleum club in the 57th minute, Ahmed Al-Muhammadi extended the gap seven minutes later and Fouad Salama added the third eight minutes from time.
Two late strikes from substitute Ahmed Salama and Ahmed Abdel Maguid were not enough to help Tersana complete a stunning comeback.
