CAIRO: A chauffeur tried to murder his employer over a financial disagreement by setting her on fire. In an ironic twist of fate, she fought back and caused him to catch fire as well, Al Gomhuriya newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the 35-year-old driver Ibrahim tricked Fatma, 55, into coming to his sister’s apartment – with whom she shares a close relationship. Ibrahim told Fatma that his sister wanted to meet her to mediate the dispute between them. Ibrahim then proceeded to pour gasoline on Fatma’s face, but her struggle caused him to catch fire as well.
Ibrahim’s sister has been friends with Fatma for over 20 years. She convinced Fatma into buying a car and hiring Ibrahim as the driver.
Arguments between the two arose over the taxi’s revenues, leading Fatma to repeatedly threaten to cancel their arrangement.
During the ensuing fire, neighbors heard their screams and broke into the apartment. The two were rushed to the hospital, both suffering major burns.
