If the cuisine of South America is new to you, you re in for a treat. Steaks restaurant has just started a South American buffet promotion and will be offering guests their first experience to savor authentic Latin American food in Cairo.

The history of this type of cuisine is quite interesting. It is influenced by cuisines from all over the world due to periods of colonization as well as waves of immigration from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. It is rooted in a variety of cultural backgrounds, foods and cooking styles.

Chef Felipe (from Four Seasons Resort Carmelo, Uruguay) is here in Cairo to cook up some of South America’s finest specialties including traditional beef, chicken and corn empanadas (stuffed pastry), Chicken Pamplona filled with cheese, bell pepper and olives and Piena de cordero a las hierbas (Herb marinated leg of Lamb). Then, savor the famous Dulce de Leche (caramel) pastries and Arroz con leche (South American milk pudding).

Felipe graduated from the Hotel and Gastronomy Institute of Uruguay, and gained his skills and experience in different restaurants in the country’s capital Montevideo as well as from his travels to Brazil. He won first prize in the young pastry chefs competition held in Montevideo in 2004 and New Chef of the Year award from the Uruguayan Association of Chefs and Cooks in 2005.
