CAIRO: The Ministry of Social Solidarity issued a statement denying press reports that the ministry is lifting subsidies off the fino (artisan) bread, saying that this information “has nothing to do with the truth.
After extensive research and upon the request of governors, the ministry said it decided to replace the 72 percent flour and distribute double the amount of 82 percent flour. The move was approved after research proved that the subsidized 72 percent flour – which is intended to be used in making fino bread – was being used by some bakeries to make sweets and other pastries, which is against the law.
The statement clarified that the bakeries that were denied the 72 percent flour were instead given double the amount of 82 percent flour.
The ministry said its efforts aim to ensure that subsidies reach their targeted beneficiaries, adding that “there are no subsidy cuts, on the contrary, we are increasing subsidies according to demand.
