KUMASI: Samuel Eto o tied a 38-year-old record for the most goals at the African Cup of Nations during Cameroon s 5-1 win over Zambia on Saturday.

The FC Barcelona scored from a penalty kick for his 14th goal – and equal-leading third at this tournament – to draw level with former Ivory Coast forward Laurent Pokou.

Pokou was twice the highest scorer at the African Cup, scoring six goals in 1968 and eight in 1970, including five in one match against Ethiopia.

Eto o converted from the spot in the 64th minute to help Cameroon bounce back from a 4-2 loss to Egypt in its opening match.

Eto o, Egypt’s Hosni Abd Rabou and Morocco s Soufiane Alloudi are the leading scorers in this year s tournament.

Cameroon forward Joseph-Desire Job tapped home two easy goals from defensive blunders in the 32nd and 81st minutes. Geremi and Achille Emana added the other goals.

Cameroon next plays Sudan in the northern city of Tamale on Wednesday.
