RIYADH: Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal donated a $180,000 to the Egyptian soccer team after it qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, his office said Saturday in a statement.

The prince, Citigroup Inc. s biggest individual shareholder and the world s 13th richest person with assets around $20 billion, sent LE 1 million as a gift for the team after it beat Ivory Coast 4-1 on in Thursday s cup semifinals.

His office said the gift was to show his support for Arab sports teams.

As a member of the Saudi royal family, bin Talal benefits from the country s vast oil wealth. But much of his huge fortune comes from his investment firm, the $25-billion Kingdom Holding Co., which has stakes in Rupert Murdoch s News Corp., Fairmont Raffles Hotels International Inc., Time Warner Inc., Apple Inc., PepsiCo Inc., and Walt Disney Co. among others. -AP
