CAIRO: An Egyptian court on Wednesday sentenced two Israeli drug smugglers tried in absentia to five years in prison, a judicial source said.

The two men were detained and released in October after an unspecified amount of hashish was found in their car as they drove into the Sinai peninsula from Israel at the Red Sea border crossing at Taba.

The public prosecutor only decided to press charges after the men had returned to Israel, the source said. -AFP
