CAIRO: In a statement to Daily News Egypt, MP Mohamed Essmat El-Sadat, vice president of the Democratic Front Party, denied newspaper reports that he was expelled from the party.
El-Sadat told Daily News Egypt that there was a “complaint filed against him, by another party member [Osama Al-Ghazaly Harb, first deputy of the Democratic Front Party] asking to expel me from the party.
“But no decision was taken to expel me, El-Sadat added.
According to El-Sadat, the party’s executive committee cannot “by law take the decision of expelling any member .this decision has to be taken by the party’s General Assembly if at least 25 percent of them vote for the decision.
Newspaper reports alleged that Harb had accused El-Sadat of physically attacking him.
Harb was unavailable for comment to Daily News Egypt but his office manager confirmed that he did file the complaint, but added that he was not aware of the details of the conflict between Harb and El-Sadat, which both members refused to discuss with the press.
