CAIRO: Al Ahly is now 16 points clear on top of the table after crushing Arab Contractors 4-1 in the Egyptian League on Monday.
Ahmed Fathi scored his first goal for Ahly from a well-placed free kick to give his side the lead after 16 minutes.
Gilberto doubled the score six minutes after the break with a curling left-foot shot.
Former Ahly striker Rami Rabie pulled one back after scoring a penalty in the 61st minute.
But Angolan striker Flavio Amado restored Al Ahly’s two-goal advantage after connecting with a fine cross from Ahmed Belal in the 62nd minute.
Flavio turned from scorer to provider in the 84th minute. He sent Belal clear to complete the rout and end the game with a comfortable 4-1 victory before the Cairo derby against Zamalek on Friday.
The Red Devils are top of the Egyptian standings with 51 points, 16 ahead of second-placed Al Gaish.
