CAIRO: Derby County manager Paul Jewell has heaped praise upon on-loan midfielder Hossam Ghaly, implying that the Rams would be looking to keep the Egyptian on permanent basis.
Ghaly, who is on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, impressed the Derby boss when he was introduced as a second-half substitute in last weekend s 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.
I thought he was terrific at Middlesbrough; he ran the game. He passed it, did his tricks at the right time, he went past people, created opportunities and got back. He [was] a really good player, Jewell was quoted as saying.
He s got brilliant feet, a great footballing brain and good technique.
He s got all the tricks, but sometimes he should use the tricks when he needs to and not all the time.
If Hossam plays like that between now and the end of the season we will be looking to try and keep him. We would be silly not to.
The Egypt international had said that he will not play for Tottenham anymore, even after the arrival of new coach Juande Ramos.
Ghaly s infamous touchline incident with former coach Martin Jol last season was largely responsible for costing him a regular place in the Spurs roster.
The 26-year-old, who preferred Derby over Egypt’s national team in the 2008 African Cup of Nations, was overlooked by Hassan Shehata for Wednesday s friendly against Argentina
