ASSIUT: Assiut Petroleum sealed promotion to the Egyptian Premier League after securing a 1-0 victory over Al-Walideya on Wednesday.
Veteran midfielder Ateya Saber converted a penalty to help Assiut Petroleum claim a valuable win.
Asiut Petroleum, which is coached by former Ahly player Mohamed Amer, returned to the top flight after just one season of being relegated to the second division.
They caused an upset in the Egyptian Cup when they ousted Cairo giants Ahly from the tournament’s preliminary round.
Assiut Petroleum were later eliminated after slumping to a 2-0 defeat to ENPPI in the cup’s round of 16.
