CAIRO: Angolan striker Flavio has penned a four-year contract extension with Ahly, the Egyptian champions announced on Sunday.
I preferred to stay with Ahly because of the club s stability. I also enjoy a warm relationship with my teammates, Flavio told the club s official website.
The new deal puts an end to the uncertainty surrounding the 28-year-old frontman s future.
Flavio, whose previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2009, has been linked with a Portuguese move after excelling with Angola in the African Cup of Nations.
He joined Ahly from Angola s Petro Atletico in 2005 but his first season with the Cairo giants was far from impressive.
Flavio scored just one goal in the 2005/2006 season. It was a fortunate strike against Ghazl Mahalla.
However, Flavio repaid Manuel Jose s faith in his abilities the following season, when he finished as the Egyptian League top scorer.
Flavio is Ahly s first-choice striker along with Egyptian international Emad Meteb.
