CAIRO: Ahly s first choice goalkeeper, Amir Abdul-Hamid, is struggling to get fit for the important CAF Champions League clash against Platinum Stars on Sunday.

Abdul-Hamid, who became Ahly s only senior keeper following the surprise departure of Essam El-Hadari, is still nursing an inflamed knee tendon and an Ahly official said that he was doubtful for Sunday s game.

Ahly s official website said on Thursday that the 29-year-old guardian is working closely with goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagui to be fit for the decisive African encounter.

Ahly had lost the first-leg against Platinum Stars 2-1 in South Africa and the five-time African champions need a victory in Cairo to secure a place in the group stage.

Abdul-Hamid s injury had left Ahly s technical staff sweating since they had to depend on youngsters Ahmed Abdul-Monem and Mohamed Al- Shennawi.

Abdul-Monem conceded two goals in the 2-0 defeat to Ittihad last week while Al- Shennawi conceded three as Ahly succumbed to their second league defeat on Tuesday
